Winter Fudge Cake

3 ounces semisweet chocolate
2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
4 tablespoons (½ stick) butter, softened
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups plain yogurt
1 cup chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour a 9½-inch by 3-inch springform pan fitted with a tube bottom.

Melt the chocolate in the microwave or in the top of a double-boiler. Let cool.

Whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda. Set aside.

Using a mixer, combine the butter, cut into pieces, and eggs. Add the vanilla and yogurt. Stir in the melted chocolate. Add the wet ingredients to the dry. Do not overmix. Stir in the chocolate chips.

Pour the batter into prepared pan. Bake for about 45 minutes until it pulls away slightly from the edges of the pan and springs back lightly when you touch the center of the cake. Cool in pan for 30 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate and remove the bottom of the springform pan.
