Grandma's Antique Chocolate
Cake
Ingredients: 2/3 cup solid
shortening (Crisco or lard) 2 eggs 1 cup white sugar 1
cup light brown sugar 2-2/3 cups flour 1/4 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda (level) 4 Tablespoons cocoa 2
cups sour milk* 2 teaspoons vanilla * To make sour milk, put
2 Tablespoons vinegar and set in warm water to sour.
Beat
shortening, eggs, sugar, and brown sugar until creamy. Sift flour,
salt, baking soda, and cocoa. Add alternately with sour milk and
vanilla. Bake in three 9-inch round or square pans for 25 to 30
minutes at 350 degrees. When cool, stack and ice with any icing your
family likes.
